Firewise Communities/USA is a project of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group's Wildland/Urban Interface Working Team. It provides citizens with the knowledge necessary to maintain an acceptable level of fire readiness, while ensuring firefighters that they can use equipment more efficiently during a wildland fire emergency.

River Run Plantation invites the public to its annual Firewise Day on July 31, 2010 - The community in southeastern Brunswick County has partnered with local fire departments to provide fire safety information. Adequate parking for the public will be provided along with a complimentary hot dog and drink for those registering for the event on-site. The event will run from 9:00am until 1:00pm.

To reach River Run Plantation, follow the signs from Highway 211 to Sunset Harbor Road and from there to the event.
